Ajay Devgn rattled off dialogues of Zanjeer in audition for debut film

Ajay Devgn

The director of Phool Aur Kaante, Kuku Kohli, has said that he planned to cast Akshay Kumar in the 1991 film but ended up selecting Ajay Devgn instead.

Ajay Devgn made his Bollywood debut in the 1991 film Phool Aur Kaante. Ajay is one of the most financially successful actors in Hollywood, having starred in more than 100 films over the span of 30 years. However, the actor was not the first choice for his debut film, which went on to become a box office triumph. Kuku Kohli has recently said that he preferred Akshay Kumar for the role but was convinced to cast Ajay instead.

Madhoo, Aruna Irani, Jagdeep, and Amrish Puri were also included in the cast of Phool Aur Kaante. Ajay won an award for his debut and was well-known for his incredible entrance routine, in which he appeared on-screen standing while balancing on two moving motorcycles.

Kuku Kohli stated how he chose Akshay for the film in an interview with ETimes, adding, “I had auditioned numerous big actors.” In actuality, I had settled on Akshay Kumar for the lead role. He had, however, agreed to work on a Pramod Chakraborty film, which began around the same time. He was unable to provide bulk dates.”

“Then I saw Ajay’s portrait in his father’s office,” he said, alluding to Ajay’s casting in the film. His name was Raju back then. I asked his father whether he aspired to be a hero. “When I interviewed Ajay, he was very sure of himself and used several Zanjeer phrases.”

After 30 years in the business, Ajay told Hindustan Times, “Frankly, it was my father’s (Veeru Devgan) intention to launch me as an actor.” I just had to focus on realizing his dream. At the moment, I didn’t consider if I’d be successful or not. I just carried out directions.”

“Phool Aur Kaante’s success catapulted my career.” Every young man with guts and ambition for financial success wants to undertake a split on two motorcycles. I was inexperienced, immature and unprepared for stardom. He went on to say that his success was due to “the blessings of God, the blessings of my parents, the blessings of the firm, and the blessings of the fans.”

Ajay was last seen in Amitabh Bachchan’s Runway 34. He was also in Gangubai Kathiawadi and RRR. He is now working on a variety of projects, including Maidaan, Drishyam 2, and Thank God.
