Ashton Sanders to play Bobby Brown in Whitney Houston biopic

In the biography on Whitney Houston, actor Ashton Sanders will play singer Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston’s husband. Naomi Ackie has been hired in the part of Houston in the film ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody,’ according to sources.

Kasi Lemmons is directing the film, which is based on a script by Anthony McCarten.

The film is described as an “emotional, dynamic tour across Houston’s career and music” by its creators.

Houston is one of the most well-known and well-recognized female musicians of all time. She’s also one of the most successful music artists of all time, with over 200 million albums sold worldwide.

‘Saving all my love for you,’ ‘Where do broken hearts go,’ ‘I believe in you and me,’ ‘Step by step,’ and ‘Heartbreak hotel’ are just a few of the unforgettable songs from the singer’s three-decade career. Among other awards, Houston received six Grammys, 16 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards, and two Emmys.

Her final studio album was 2009’s ‘I Look to You’. She passed away in February 2012.

Ashton Sanders, 25, has previously appeared in films such as Straight Outta Compton (2015), Moonlight (2016), The Equalizer 2 (2018), Native Son (2019), and Judas and the Black Messiah (2020). In the Hulu series Wu-Tang: An American Saga, he also plays RZA.

In other news, Warner Bros. is pushing forward with the remake of Houston’s 1992 classic The Bodyguard, which also featured Kevin Costner. The script will be written by Matthew López. Bobby Brown expressed his displeasure with the remake to TMZ after hearing the news.

The Whitney Houston Estate and Primary Wave collaborated on the film. The project has been granted permission to utilize Houston’s repertoire and voice thanks to the blessing of Houston’s estate and Davis. Nicole Brown, Shary Shirazi, and Brittany Morrissey are also scheduled to manage the project on behalf of TriStar Pictures.
