Blurr will star Taapsee Pannu in the starring role, her debut as a producer.

Taapsee Pannu’s decision to become a producer may have shocked her admirers, but given her curiosity, her drive to find answers to problems, and her sensitivities as an actor that have transcended current limits, a big portion of the industry had predicted it. Blurr, her debut film as a producer, also has her in the lead role. The thriller will be directed by Ajay Bahl, who previously directed Section 375 starring Richa Chadha and Akshaye Khanna. It will also star Gulshan Devaiah and a few more intriguing talents. Taapsee is nearing the end of her Mishan Impossible commitment, following which she is slated to begin filming Blurr.

“A lot of people were anticipating that I would become a producer, but I kept it under wraps until I was absolutely confident I was doing this,” Taapsee recalls of her first time as an actor-producer on her film. When Pranjal Khandhdiya urged me to think about it, I was certain. Because of his expertise and understanding of production and the creative process that he brings to the exercise, I was able to say yes to him when he tabled the proposal. Over the course of a year, we honed in on the initiatives we want to launch. I had given Blurr the thumbs up even before it had anyone else linked to it.

On a plot and screenplay level, I adored it. When I first started to create, I figured I’d start with this one-of-a-kind film. And I’m making my acting-producer debut with a strong team behind me. I’m hoping it will give me an advantage in my new venture. I’m wanting to try something new and exciting. Whether I create films or television series, and whether they are released in theatres or on OTT platforms, they will be consistent with my acting style. I may not perform in all of them, but the material will be consistent with my aesthetic and sensibility as an artist.”
