During his filmmaking training, Kabir Khan studied Shah Rukh Khan’s notes and danced with Gauri Khan in college: ‘She is a wonderful dancer.’

Kabir Khan

Kabir Khan directed Shah Rukh Khan in his 2017 film Tubelight, which also starred Salman Khan. Shah Rukh made a cameo appearance in the film and narrated Kabir’s Amazon Prime Video series The Forgotten Army. However, before meeting on set, Kabir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan attended the same college in New Delhi. They both took a filmmaking course at the AJK Mass Communication Research Centre (MCRC). At the institute, though, Shah Rukh was Kabir’s senior.

In an interview with Mashable India, Kabir recalled using SRK’s notes throughout his undergraduate years.” I was finishing up a Master of Communication, which was largely a filmmaking degree,” he added. It was also a cinematic project at the time. Before me, Shah Rukh Khan was the most famous alumnus of our school. In MCRC, he was my senior. I studied using his notes. I knew Shah Rukh before he got into show business.”

Not only did Kabir know Shah Rukh, but he also knew his wife Gauri Khan.“I used to dance with his wife (the late Shah Rukh) and we did West Side Story in a musical together,” he said. Gauri is a fantastic dancer.

Kabir Khan also directed Shah Rukh in a Dubai Tourism ad. When questioned about the possibilities of full-fledged cooperation with Shah Rukh during the Tubelight premiere, Kabir said to indianexpress.com, “I would love to collaborate with him.” I’ve known him since we were in college in Delhi. We recently filmed a commercial and discussed ideas. So, if we both agree on a concept, I am certain we will cooperate.”

Kabir’s most recent film, 83, on India’s victory in the 1983 Cricket World Cup, was released in December 2021. Despite strong word of mouth, the picture did poorly at the box office since it was released during the third wave of the pandemic. Ranveer Singh played the lead in the film.
