Laal Singh Chaddha is the highest-grossing Hindi film internationally, surpassing Gangubai Kathiawadi and Kashmir Files

Laal Singh Chaddha

Laal Singh Chaddha, directed by Aamir Khan, may have bombed domestically, but it broke a significant box office record worldwide. According to Bollywood Hungama, the Forrest Gump remake has surpassed hits such as Gangubai Kathiawadi, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and The Kashmir Files to become the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2022 in international markets.

Laal Singh Chaddha has surpassed Gangubai Kathiawadi ($7.47 million), Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 ($5.88 million), and The Kashmir Files ($5.7 million) in less than a week of release. In comparison, each of those three films was a huge success in India. However, the Telugu hit RRR has made nearly $20 million in international markets.

Laal Singh Chaddha, on the other hand, has made slightly more than Rs 55 crore. The film was made on a reported Rs 180 crore budget and began production before the pandemic. Before the film was released in theatres earlier this month, portions were shot in fits and starts over the last three years. Laal Singh Chaddha’s worldwide earnings have now reached Rs 126 crore.

The film still has a chance of making a profit at the box office if it does well in China (which, in turn, depends on whether or not it even gets a China release). In the post-pandemic era, the territory has become notoriously unfriendly to imported films. With the success of Secret Superstar and Dangal, Aamir remains a major star there. Thugs of Hindostan, his 2018 film, flopped in China as well.

According to a previous Bollywood Hungama report, Laal Singh Chaddha was Aamir’s biggest flop since Mela in 2000. This is also the first time Aamir has had two consecutive flops since 1947’s Earth and Mela. Advait Chandan directs Laal Singh Chaddha, which stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, and Naga Chaitanya.
