Madhur Bhandarkar: Babli Bouncer is a game changer for Tamannaah Bhatia

Tamannaah Bhatia

Madhur Bhandarkar is pulling all the stops to promote his film Babli Bouncer, starring Tamannaah Bhatia, and set to premiere on Disney Hotstar., “People would have a smile on their face after watching the film.”

Babli Bouncer delves into the world of female bouncers, a unique subject in the romantic-comedy genre. But why stop at bouncers? “I am recognized for making films on issues that no one has touched before,” Madhur Bhandarkar stated. I found the world of bouncers fascinating, but female bouncers were novel to me. Then we did some investigation and discovered that the majority of bouncers are from Haryana. They travel to Delhi and Mumbai for jobs.”

Tamannaah plays Babli, a female bodybuilder in her village, in the film. “Babli is a feisty, joker, bindas, wicked, and romantic at heart,” the director said of her role. I’d never had such a character as the lead in my picture before. Female characters in my films are unique, at times submissive, such as Tabu in Chandni Bar. However, Babli contains opposing components. We tried to develop a lighthearted comedy, but the characters are also quite realistic. They aren’t exaggerated or far-fetched from reality. Because I have an audience that like Madhur Bhandarkar’s films. Because my audience is vital to me, I wanted to maintain that spirit. They are aware that my films are genuine.”

Tamannaah plays opposite Abhishek Bajaj, who rose to prominence with Karan Johar’s Student of the Year 2. He stumbled into Madhur Bhandarkar’s orbit after the latter discovered him on Twitter. What caused that to happen? “I didn’t know whom to cast,” Madhur admitted, initially perplexed. I was scrolling through my timeline one day when I came across an article on Abhishek Bajaj with his photo. I immediately opened the link and discovered that Kare Aashiqui was in Chandigarh. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I remember liking him somewhere. I forwarded it to my colleagues, and that was the end of it! He performed an audition and was hired.” In the film, Abhishek plays both Babli’s boss and her love interest.
