Tom Cruise is irrelevant because he has played the same role for 35 years: Rourke, Mickey

In a recent interview, actor Mickey Rourke launched a scathing attack on Tom Cruise. The actor, who is best known for his roles in The Wrestler and Iron Man 2, referred to Tom as “irrelevant” and stated that “he has no respect” for how the celebrity selects the roles he plays. Tom’s latest film, Top Gun: Maverick, is the year’s most successful film, grossing more than $1 billion worldwide.

Mickey is an Oscar-nominated actor who has appeared in several successful films, including Iron Man 2, The Expendables, and Immortals. In an interview, the 69-year-old discussed older actors starring in successful films, which saw a resurgence in the late 2000s.

In an interview with Piers Morgan Uncensored, Mickey was asked how he felt about Tom, 60, starring in Top Gun: Maverick. “That means nothing to me. He’s been playing the same part for 35 years. Mickey scoffed, saying, “I have no respect for that.”

“I’m not interested in money or power,” the actor said in response. When I watch Al Pacino’s work, Chris Walken’s work, De Niro’s early work, Richard Harris’s work, and Ray Winstone’s work, I care. I want to be like that when I grow up. Back in the day, Monty Clift and Marlon Brando.” When asked if he thought Tom was a good actor, Mickey said, “I think he’s irrelevant in my world.”

In the sequel to his 1986 hit Top Gun, Tom reprised his iconic role as Naval aviator Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell. In addition, he has starred in six Mission Impossible films, one of the most successful film franchises in history. The series’ seventh and eighth installments will be released in 2023 and 2024, respectively. Mickey last appeared in the 2021 film Man of God.
