SHOOTING THE JALLIANWALA BAGH SCENE WAS NUMBING, SAYS VICKY KAUSHAL.
Vicky Kaushal spoke at India Today Conclave 2021 about a moment from Sardar Udham that had a profound impact on him. In 1940, the actor plays Sardar Udham Singh, who assassinated Michael O’Dwyer, the previous lieutenant governor of Punjab, to revenge the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Vicky admitted that filming the slaughter scenario at Jallianwala Bagh was a harrowing experience.
“It was a numbing experience for me to try to recreate the Jallianwala Bagh slaughter. I understood what I was getting myself into as an actor, yet I was still unprepared. Shoojit’s cinematography in the scenario is so lifelike that it transports you to that planet. After that shoot, there were moments when I couldn’t sleep because I couldn’t stop thinking about what happened. What impact would it have had on those who had really observed it if it was so numbing for me? “I shivered at the notion.”
