According to the producer, Akshay Kumar’s Ram Setu would be released in theatres rather than on-demand
The producer of Akshay Kumar’s Ram Setu has confirmed that the film will be released in theatres this Diwali, despite rumors to the contrary.
According to recent sources, Akshay Kumar’s forthcoming film Ram Setu would be released via an OTT platform rather than in theatres, as previously promised. According to some accounts, this was owing to the poor success of Akshay’s most recent flicks, Samrat Prithviraj and Bachchan Pandey. However, Ram Setu’s producer, Vikram Malhotra, has officially denied all of these stories.
Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt Bharuccha co-star in Ram Setu. The film, directed by Abhishek Sharma, depicts Akshay as an archaeologist who is looking into the mystery of the Ram Setu, the legendary bridge between India and Sri Lanka described in the Ramayana. The film will be released on October 24, just before Diwali.
Taran Adarsh, a film trade expert, tweeted on Friday that the film’s producer, Vikram Malhotra, has confirmed that the film would only be released in theatres. “Ram Setu: in theatres, not OTT… #RamSetu – starring #AkshayKumar – will premiere in cinemas, not on any digital platform, as social media anticipated… ‘#RamSetu will celebrate #Diwali 2022 in theatres, as pledged,’ producer #VikramMalhotra clarifies.”
Akshay’s last two films did not do well at the box office. Bachchan Pandey, which came out in March, barely made 49 crores in its whole run. His most recent film, Samrat Prithviraj, is likewise concluding its run, having earned 66 crores in India thus far. According to certain sources, the makers of Ram Setu were hesitant to release the picture in theatres due to the film’s poor performance.
Another cause of misunderstanding is the fact that Ram Setu is co-produced by Amazon Prime Video. The streaming giant also revealed the first picture from the film during its major event, Prime Video Presents, last month. According to insiders close to the film, Ram Setu is Amazon Studios’ first theatrical release in India, and it will only be available on OTT once it has completed its theatrical run.
