Barbie malware: India is one of the top five countries where attacks are happening

Barbie

India is one of the top three countries in the world where big malware attacks have been made under the guise of selling Barbie merchandise. There has been a lot of talk about the new Hollywood movie, and it did very well in its first weekend.

Malware about Barbie

Steve Grobman, CTO of McAfee, said in a statement, “Online, there have been a lot of scams, like fake downloads of the movie that install malware, Barbie-related viruses, and fake videos that lead people to links that steal personal information with spyware instead of free tickets.”

He also said, “Cybercriminals are always looking for ways to make phishing and other scams look more appealing and real.” They often use well-known events like movie openings, concerts, and sports games to trick people into clicking on links that are harmful.

US is the main goal, and India is one of the top 5

A report on the company’s website said that over the past three weeks, 100 new pieces of malware with filenames linked to Barbie have been found. Because the name Barbie is so well-known, hackers are using it to trick people into downloading malicious files, as evidenced here once again. There were many different kinds of files, but some of the most common ones were.html and.exe. Most of the time, attacks went after the US, but they also went after other countries.

McAfee warned people to be careful because people who look online for Barbie-related items are more likely to fall for a scam. The company gave samples of the scams as well. There are random links to download the movie in Hindi and Tamil, among other languages.

observed multiple malware efforts in India that aim to fool users into downloading the “Barbie” film. By clicking on the link, users are told to download a.zip file full of malware.
