The 72nd Berlin International Film Festival has picked Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, starring Alia Bhatt. The film will have its international debut at the festival and will be released in theatres on February 18. Alia Bhatt announced the happy news on social media. She expressed her gratitude for being a member of a “great team.”
ALIA BHATT REACTS TO THE SELECTION OF GANGUBAI KATHIWADI FOR THE BERLIN FILM FESTIVAL
Alia Bhatt took to Twitter to announce that her film Gangubai Kathiawadi had been selected to be presented at the Berlin Film Festival in 2022. Alia stated in her statement, “So proud to be a part of such an amazing team that has now been officially selected for the #BerlinFilmFestival2022. See you on February 18th, 2022 (sic).”
GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI TO MAKE ITS WORLD PREMIERE AT BERLINALE 2022
Next year, Gangubai Kathiawadi will make its international debut at the Berlin International Film Festival. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed picture has been selected for screening as part of Berlinale Special, a section of the film festival committed to showcasing exceptional filmmaking. This year’s choices are documentaries shot during the epidemic.
GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI’S STORY
Gangubai Kathiawadi is claimed to be a lady who moved to Mumbai from Gujarat with her boyfriend only to be deceived, sold off, and forced into prostitution. In the middle of the past century, Kathiawadi developed links with various underworld gangs and gained control of some areas of South Mumbai. She became the proprietor of a brothel and is claimed to have worked for the betterment of women and orphans in Mumbai’s Kamathipura red-light district.
The film, produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios), is planned to hit theatres on February 18, 2022.
