Drishyam 2 is the first Bollywood film in years to fill Maratha Mandir and Gaiety Galaxy

Drishyam 2

Drishyam 2, starring Ajay Devgn, has brought a sigh of relief to the film industry with its outstanding box office results. The film has grossed over Rs 75 crore in its first four days of release and is anticipated to surpass Rs 100 crore within one week. Now, cinema exhibitor and erstwhile producer Manoj Desai claim that Drishyam 2 is the first film in many years to play to packed houses at his two legendary Mumbai venues, the Maratha Mandir and the Gaiety Galaxy.

“We were in tears because Bollywood films performed so poorly.” But after so many years, a film has sold out theatres.” He stated that the Gaiety Galaxy theatre can seat 1,000 people, while the Maratha Mandir theatre can seat 1,200 people, adding that all Sunday performances were sold out. Even on Monday, he reported that shows were operating at above fifty percent capacity.

He stated that if Bollywood decides to generate unique content, it may be able to produce even more successful films like Drishyam 2. He stated, “However, Bollywood is unwilling to bother. Producers will place responsibility on distributors, and distributors will place responsibility on exhibitors. They will be protected, but we will be left to clean up the mess. For the first time in such a long period, we are bathing with them in the Ganga.”

The year 2022 has been especially challenging for Bollywood, with only four films achieving box office success, and two of them include addendums. While Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and The Kashmir Files were profitable solely through theatrical display, Brahmastra and Gangubai Kathiawadi had enormous expenses to recoup.

Manoj Desai made waves earlier this year for criticizing Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘arrogant’ remarks on the film Liger. Vijay subsequently met with him, and the two looked to have resolved their differences.

Drishyam 2 is a remake of the Mohanlal-starring Malayalam film of the same name. Last year, the original was made available on Prime Video. Ajay’s most recent solo releases have been met with mixed reviews, although Gangubai Kathiawadi and RRR, in which he starred in a supporting role, have received praise. He also released the teaser for his upcoming film Bholaa on Tuesday.
