Karan Johar says that he WANTED Jaya Bachchan to play a “bad” role in “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.”
Rocky and Rani Kii Karan Johar has been in the movie business for 25 years, and Prem Kahaani was his first movie as a director in seven years. The movie has done very well and is now the highest-grossing Bollywood love comedy in the world. People have liked Ranveer Singh’s sweet performance as Rocky and Alia Bhatt’s strong performance as Rani. Notably, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra, and others in the supporting cast have made important contributions to the movie’s interesting plot.
One of the best things about the movie was how Jaya Bachchan played Dhanlakshmi. Her part as the main couple’s enemy in their love story was very well received. In a recent interview with The Indian Express, Karan Johar talked about why he chose Jaya Bachchan for this part. He told her that he picked her on purpose to do something different from what she usually does. Karan talked about how respected Jaya Bachchan is both on and off screen.
He said that giving her an unusual part was a way to add a new layer to her well-known persona.Karan Johar said, “It was actually to cast against type. She always looks great, on and off the screen. She is like a mother to me. So, when I wanted to cast someone who didn’t fit the mould, I thought it would be great for her to do something different from what she has done before. She’s like goody…that’s how she came across on film.
So, it’s nice to change things up every so often.”Karan Johar cast Jaya Bachchan as Ranveer’s grandma in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. She plays a traditional matriarch who is against his relationship with Alia’s character. Her strict adherence to rules and customs drove her away from her own family, and she never got them back.
Even though big films like Gadar 2 and OMG 2 came out around the same time as Karan Johar’s film, it is still doing well four weeks after it came out on 28 July. The movie has made more than Rs 300 crore all over the world. This is because it deals with important topics like gender role reversal, body shaming, and sexism while keeping a humorous touch.
