Sitara Devi, the famed dancer, will be the subject of a biopic

Sitara Devi, an actress, singer, and dancer, turns 101 today (November 8). Producer Raj C Anand announced a biography about her life and accomplishments on this important day. Raj Anand Movies, his production company, will finance the film. In the next months, more information about the biopic will be released. Pre-production is presently in progress.

Sitara Devi was an actress, singer, and Kathak dancer. In 1973, she received the Padma Shree award, and in the 1990s, she received the Kalidas Samman and Nritya Nipuna prizes. “Is this administration not aware of my contribution to Kathak?” she said, refusing to receive the Padma Bhushan award.

Today, November 8, is her 101st birthday, and producer Raj Anand has launched a biography on her life. Taran Adarsh, a trade analyst, announced the news on Twitter, writing, “SITARA DEVI’S BIOPIC IS RELEASED ON HER BIRTHDAY… Producer Raj C Anand [Raj Anand Movies] has announced a biography of famous #SitaraDevi on her 101st birthday… Several prizes were bestowed to the outstanding dancer-singer-actress, including the #PadmaShree (sic).”

SITARA DEVI’S HISTORY
Sitara Devi was born in Kolkata as Dhanalakshmi. She became interested in Kathak and began working to change the dance form. Her first film was Usha Haran (1940), and she went on to star in films like Nagina (1951), Roti, Vatan, and Anjali.

Sitara studied a variety of dance styles in addition to Kathak, including Bharatanatyam and Russian ballet. Madhubala, Rekha, Kajol, and Mala Sinha were among the actresses she taught Kathak to. Sitara passed away on November 25 in Mumbai after a protracted illness.
