On Friday evening, the trailer for the latest part of the successful John Wick franchise was revealed. Chapter 4 of John Wick has Keanu Reeves reprising his role as the legendary suit-wearing assassin in his deadliest combat to date. This time, John is not seeking vengeance, but rather his freedom. But the death match may be more than he bargained for, as it appears he has met his match in the menacing-appearing Donnie Yen.
The teaser depicts John and Donnie Yen’s characters conversing in a chapel before Donnie tells the seemingly invulnerable assassin, “You are going to die.” John, though, is up for the challenge. Then, we are introduced to “new management” in John’s world’s criminal underground, commanded by a sinister-looking Bill Skarsgard, who is pretty terrifying even without the clown makeup. Winston, portrayed by Ian McShane, informs John that if he defeats Bill in single combat, he will be released from this hellhole.
Unfortunately for everyone’s favorite assassin, the path to challenging this new kingpin is arduous, requiring the elimination of several deadly hitmen while avoiding death in the process. John’s most dangerous opponent is Donnie Yen’s new threat, who appears to be a perfect match for him. John may have taken on more than he can chew. Fans are indeed concerned.
The official plot summary for the movie states that “John Wick (Keanu Reeves) finds a way to conquer the High Table.” Before he can earn his freedom, Wick must battle a new foe with global affiliations and forces that transform former allies into enemies. In addition to Keanu and Ian, Laurence Fishburne and Lance Reddick will reprise their respective roles as The Bowery King and Charon.
According to a rumor from Deadline, Japanese pop singer Rina Sawayama will make her Hollywood debut in John Wick: Chapter 4 as a new series character. The film will also star Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, and Scott Adkins. John Wick 4, directed by Chad Stahelski, opens in theatres on March 24, 2023.
