Bhediya Day 1 Box Office Earnings: The Varun Dhawan film gets a lackluster start and faces heavy competition from Drishyam 2
On Friday, the horror-comedy Bhediya starring Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon faced heavy opposition from Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 2. Although trade analysts believed that the success of Drishyam 2 would not affect Bhediya, it appears that it has. The film directed by Amar Kaushik has had a disappointing start at the box office, failing to open in the top ten.
According to Bollywood Hungama, the film made between Rs 6-7 crore on its opening day. The three largest national cinema chains, PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, contributed Rs 3.58 crore to the opening day gross. Now, on Saturday, the film must quadruple its opening day earnings in order to have any chance of success. In contrast, Drishyam 2 has earned approximately Rs 105 crore in its first week of release.
Given the film’s favorable critical reception, Bhediya has a possibility of improving over the weekend. However, if this does not occur, Bhediya could join the ranks of Laal Singh Chaddha, Shamshera, Raksha Bandhan, and other major Bollywood disappointments of 2022.
Varun plays a werewolf in Bhediya, while Kriti Sanon portrays a doctor. Abhishek Banerjee and Paalin Kabak also play key roles in the film. The film was deemed “enjoyable” by Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express. In her review, she stated, “Humans transforming into werewolves is such a common theme that the notion of yet another adaptation didn’t faze me: I’m pleased to say that most of ‘Bhediya,’ in which the main character transforms into a ‘icchha-dhaari’ wolf, is quite delightful.”
