Robert Downey Jr., the star of several Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, and Oscar winner Matt Damon will collaborate with Christopher Nolan for the first time on Oppenheimer. The specifics of their responsibilities have remained a secret.

J Robert Oppenheimer will be played by Cillian Murphy, while his wife Katherine will be played by Emily Blunt. Murphy collaborated with the filmmaker on his previous three films, Batman Begins, Inception, and Dunkirk.

The film Oppenheimer is based on Kai Bird and Martin J Sherwin’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J Robert Oppenheimer.

The film will be written and directed by Christopher Nolan, with Emma Thomas, his creative collaborator, and wife, producing with Charles Roven of Atlas Entertainment.

The studio describes the picture as an “epic thriller that immerses fans in the heart-pounding dilemma of an enigmatic man who must risk destroying the planet to preserve it.”

Tenet, a 2020 espionage thriller starring John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Kenneth Branagh, and Elizabeth Debicki, was Nolan’s most recent film.

On July 21, 2023, Oppenheimer will be released in theatres.
