Many people are unaware that Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor were set to make their Bollywood debuts in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film. Alia was only 12 years old at the time, while Ranbir was around 20.

After 5 years of dating, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor married in an intimate ceremony on April 14th. While the lovebirds’ journey was nothing short of a fairytale, many may be unaware that Alia and Ranbir were supposed to make their Bollywood debuts with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Balika Vadhu. Ranbir was around 20 at the time and worked as Bhansali’s assistant. When Alia first met Ranbir on Bhansali’s set, she was only 12 years old. The filmmaker was working on his film Balika Vadhu at the time and wanted to cast Alia and Ranbir in the lead roles. They’d even collaborated on a photoshoot. Alia couldn’t stop blushing when Bhansali asked her to lean on Ranbir’s shoulder, and she was unable to perform the scene. During the 2014 promotion of Imtiaz Ali’s Highway, Alia recalled the incident and stated, “I was 12 years old the first time I met Ranbir. I had to do a photoshoot with him because he was assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali. And I was too timid to keep my head on his shoulder, which I couldn’t do. A few years later, in 2017, Ranbir recounted the identical experience that had turned him become an Alia admirer right then and there. He also said that they had planned to make their debuts jointly.In fact, many people didn’t know that Alia and I were going to make our movie debut together while Sanjay Ji was making Balika Vadhu. We had also done a photoshoot together, and I have been a fan of hers ever since.”
