Ekta Kapoor says she’s “more interested in statistics around Lock Upp” than parenting articles: ‘I am not a natural parent.’

Ekta Kapoor

Ekta Kapoor, the TV czarina and film producer, gave birth to a baby boy through surrogacy in 2019. Though she referred to it as her “greatest success” at the time, she has said that she does not consider herself to be “naturally a parent.” Instead, she considers her brother, Tusshar Kapoor, to be a ‘natural parent.’

Ekta recently discussed balancing her personal and business lives. She told The Quint that she is more interested in learning about the statistics around her program Lock Upp than in reading parenting materials sent with her by her brother Tusshar. Tusshar Kapoor used surrogacy as well. In 2016, he gave birth to his son Lakshya.

Ekta said, “I’m not a natural mom.” But as much as I love my child, I’m sick of the unrealistic expectations we place on women to be moral role models. My younger sibling is, too. He was born to be a father. She can’t stop raving about him. He often sends me links to articles about parenting that he thinks I’d be interested in. Lock Upp information, on the other hand, is more interesting to me.”

When Ekta goes to work, she always carries her son Ravie Kapoor with her to make sure he’s safe and secure. “I’m driven to succeed.” My work is my life. I have not been a part of my son’s life. Instead, I’ve taken him in and made him my own. The way I raise my children is based on this. My demons have been dealt with. I don’t want to seem as though my life had suddenly transformed with the birth of my child.”

Her family, including her mother, Shobha Kapoor, and father Jeetendra, has been behind her in her endeavor. She went on to say, “My family didn’t make me feel bad for being so ambitious.”
